Association between Preeclampsia and Risk of Arrhythmias and Stroke: A Meta-analysis of 3,871,787 women patients.

Abstract Body:

Background
Preeclampsia, a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy has been known to be associated with adverse outcomes including cardiovascular complications. However, data on the association between preeclampsia and the incidence of arrhythmias are sparse with limited literature to date.
Objective
We sought to evaluate the association between preeclampsia and the risk of arrhythmias.
Methods
We performed a systematic literature search on PubMed, Scopus, and Clinicaltrial.gov for relevant studies from inception until April 2024 without any language restrictions. Adjusted Hazard ratios (aHR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were pooled using a random-effect model.
Results
A total of 4 studies with 3,871,787 women patients (86,452 women in the preeclampsia group and 3,785,245 women in non preeclampsia) were included in the analysis. Pooled analysis showed that women with preeclampsia were having a higher incidence of arrhythmias (aHR, 1.71 (95%CI:1.24-2.18), P<0.001), and stroke (aHR, 1.72(95%CI: 1.25-2.19), P<0.001) when compared with the non preeclampsia group of women.
Conclusion
Our study shows that women with Preeclampsia were having a higher incidence of arrhythmias and stroke. Proper and timely cardiovascular assessment may benefit from morbidity and mortality.
