NEURODEVELOPMENT OUTCOMES IN SURVIVORS OF IN-HOSPITAL CARDIORESPIRATORY ARREST OR CARDIORESPIRATORYFAILURE(Pre-arrest) IN A TERTIARY HOSPITAL IN SOUTH INDIA – A PROSPECTIVE COHORT STUDY

Abstract Body: OBJECTIVES: To assess neurodevelopmental outcome in survivors of in-hospital cardio-respiratoryarrest (CRA) or cardio-respiratory failure (CRF) , at discharge and at 6 months afterhospital discharge using various standardized development assessment tools. andtostudy clinical profile of all these patients. METHODS: Children aged between 72hrs – 15 years, with Cardio-respiratory arrest (CRA) ORCardio-respiratory failure (CRF): those had respiratory failure and hypotensive shock withor without bradycardia) were recruited. Baseline social quotient and global functions were assessed at discharge using POPC/PCPC. At 6 months followup, neurodevelopment was assessed using GMDS(Griffiths Mental Development Scale3rdedn.) /BKT (Binet Kamat Test) along with VSMS (Vinland Social Maturity Scale) and data was analysed. Description of clinical profile of the study population was also done. RESULTS:A total of 353 patients survived either a cardiorespiratory arrest (n=223) (OR) cardiorespiratory failure ( 130). 98 children among them (CRA 55+CRF 43) survived to hospital discharge. POPC,PCPC is scored . At 6 months follow up of 34 children,24 were found to have good neurological outcome (GQ > 76 by GMDS 3rd edition or IQ >70 by Binet Kamat test) showed improvement or return to baseline pre-morbid neurological status. 10 children have poor neurological outcome . CONCLUSION: Among the children who were followed up for neuro developmental assessment, 71%had a good neurological outcome and were able to return to baseline premorbidneurological status.
